Dr. Bahri's office scheduled my shoulder surgery for 7am but I was to come earlier, at 6:30am.  Unfortunately, we didn't get a call the evening before, changing the time I was to come in, so we were 3 hours too early.  I was NPO (nothing per oral or nothing to eat or drink) and so was my poor husband.  We waited and waited.  About 11am they finally took me back.  They got me ready and called my husband back to wait with me.

I was given two pills, to 'calm' me and to wait more.  I too was rolled into the surgery awake and creped.  They put something in the IV and I was gone.  I was awakened afterwards and felt awful.  The sedation they give is very deep and I could not wake up.  I was in and out for a long time and felt terrible and could not get my breath.  After two hours we were kicked out but I was still not really awake, just dizzy and nauseated.  They told my husband that they were closed and that we were last and had to leave.

The next morning I was still not completely awake but I had an appt with the Dr. I could not put on any normal clothes.  I had a muumuu like dress and wore it over the contraption on my arm and myself.  I was so big I could only fit in the back seat of the car and was not comfortable in a chair.  When he saw me the Dr was nervous, he had Kathy try to adjust the straps around me and my arm.  She suggested I get an undershirt under the Velcro straps as they were rubbing me sore.

A couple days later the sugary center called and when my husband explained how the arm straps went around me.  We discovered it was all wrong!  My arm was straight down at my side and the foam pillow was on the outside, doing no good. After rotator cup surgery the abductor pillow holds the arm out at a 45-degree angle for about 6 weeks.  Mine would not have healed properly.  The thing that made me most angry was that Dr Bahri did not tell me it was on wrong nor did he fix it.

It took a whole week to find another surgeon but I did.  The first thing he did was take off the terrible pillow and put another one on properly.  He put on a very high quality sling of black Velcro that was very comfortable and took the weight off my arm/shoulder. The kind doctor who took me in is Richard A. Picerno II, M.D.

The new doctor’s office was beautiful and the people working there are all cheerful and happy.  There is practically no wait to see the Dr. and this is the opposite of Dr. Bahri’s office and staff.

It was wonderful to find a nice doctor so I would heal well and to be able to wear clothes again. Another thing he did was to put me right into Brooks Rehab so the shoulder would stay flexible while Dr Bahri had not planned to put me in rehab until the first 6 weeks was up. I feel I am ahead of the game in every way by changing MD's midstream.

This Doctor may be a great surgeon but...

He was 3 hours late for my surgery. Didn't approve any sedative or anything before I went into surgery. They just rolled me in wide awake, strapped me down, let me watch everybody getting prepped, view all the equiptment , etc. ( I think he gets a kickback for saving the expense on that)

Would not authorize physical therapy after several requests ( he gets a kickback from HMO ) He told me that 'I'm a big girl, I know how to do the excersises'. Yeah, right .. I work 11 hour days on concrete floors. He cut through every muscle & ligament. Put 4 screws, a rod & some big bolt into my leg !!!   I can do this myself!%#@*#$$  Sent me home ( after hip surgery) without any pain medication because they never returned my calls. Nor, did they call in a refill for me before they closed on Friday.

His nurse, Kathy will never , ever call you back. Makes you feel like you are begging & being a pain to get a simple return phone call. Excuse is that she didn't get your message. Was out at the clinic with the doctor, etc.

They hurd you in the office like cattle. You will sit around with 30 to 40 patients in the waiting room for hours!

It's not worth it!!!    I went to Dr. Grimsley @ the Jax. Orthapedic Institute to have it all taken out & it was like night & day.... They were wonderful, they treated me so nice. He was awesome!

Don't make a mistake by going to the Barhi office off of University by Memorial Hospital.
